We want to provide as much value as possible to each Praxis participant during the boot camp experience. For that reason, we have a module that participants complete before they even start the program!
The goal of this module is to give participants the ability to hit the ground running as soon as they begin the program. The Pre-program Module must be completed before the chosen start date.
This module has several different facets:

    1. Content Consumption.
    2. Deliverables.
    3. Advising sessions
    4. Community Interaction.

1. Content Consumption

“If you genuinely do not find any value in a recommended deliverable in the curriculum, create one you do value and stick to that and ship it. It’s about you becoming more of who you want, making and fulfilling your commitment. We provide examples and ideas we have seen be tremendously valuable consistently… but the point is not to do something we suggest, but to create a challenge and commit to it and fulfill that commitment to move closer to who you want to be…

You’re either committed to personal growth or you aren’t. We’re here to serve you. Praxis is your career and life fitness trainer.”

The above is an excerpt from an essay in the Pre-program Module called Rebellion, or Fear and Laziness? written by Isaac Morehouse.
The content in the Pre-program module is all about getting to know what Praxis is and how to approach the education experience. It’s full of thought-provoking information as well as motivational content that is meant to set a precedent for the rest of the program.
Participants begin listening to the Forward Tilt Podcast and read through the Forward Tilt Book.
Several lectures from Education Director T.K. Coleman are part of the curriculum, as well as a speech given by Praxis CEO and founder Isaac Morehouse called “College is Dead.”

2. Deliverables

You can’t learn simply by consuming helpful information. You have to apply that information to your life. For this reason, all Praxis modules feature clear deliverables that are due by the end of the module.
Here are the Pre-program deliverables:

  1. Professional Headshot
  2. Email 101
  3. Professional Testimonial
  4. LinkedIn Profile
  5. Personal Website
  6. Pitch Deck

Don’t worry: each of these deliverables is accompanied by helpful articles and instructional videos. Participants source information from the community, and have access to advisors whenever they need help.
Participants leave the module with the foundation laid for their professional appearance everywhere.
Website Examples:
theevanle.com
oliviavanwormer.com
hannah-phillips.com
LinkedIn Profile Examples:
Jackie Blum
Cameron Sorsby
Praxis participa.nt Sarah Iddings wrote a great article detailing how to create a good LinkedIn profile.

3. Advising Sessions

Advisors are a key part of Praxis, in the Pre-program Module as well as all the others.
Advisors work with participants during this time to nail down their program goals and get a clear picture of how to provide value to each one during the length of the program. They also provide detailed feedback on deliverables to ensure that each participant reaches his or her goals through the deliverables.
In addition, participants are welcome to schedule calls with advisors to troubleshoot specific issues like web design or personal growth.

4. Community Interaction

All our participants and alumni hang out in our Facebook Workplace group, where the entire community exchanges information, projects, questions, and ideas.
The Pre-program Module has its own group where participants submit their deliverables for feedback from peers and advisors.
A highlight of the Pre-program experience is the group discussion for the Last Safe Investment by Michael Ellsberg (a gift from the Praxis team). Here, participants chat with advisors about the book and complete fun projects to hone their critical thinking and self-examination skills.
Plus, anyone in Pre-program also has access to the Praxis Wednesday calls, the weekly group discussions that everyone in the community loves!
After Pre-program, participants are set to begin the boot camp journey!
