Praxis is untraditional, therefore so is our application process. The program is a challenge and an adventure. Getting accepted is highly competitive. Not everyone is up to it.
Successful Praxis participants bring various skill sets and experiences to the table, but what they all have in common is a forward tilt, self-motivated attitude, intellectual curiosity, communication skills, and a strong work ethic. That’s what the Praxis team looks for in applicants.
When designing the application process and tweaking and improving it over the last few years, it was important to make it untraditional but efficient, informative, and fun! We want to get to know you, not your test scores or credentials.
Here’s what makes the Praxis application process different from the college application process:
The college application process is almost always long and monotonous. It can take months before hearing back about a final decision.
We don’t want applicants to jump through bureaucratic hoops or try to please us based on arbitrary requirements or statistics. We want the admissions process and customer service experience to be as fast, thorough, and efficient as possible.
If you move through each step promptly, the Praxis application process takes three to four weeks to complete from initial application to hearing a final decision from the review team.
We pride ourselves on exceptional customer service, no barriers to contacting the admissions team, and 24-hour response time.
We don’t ask applicants for their GPA, test scores, transcripts, diploma, or degree. We aren’t looking for you to check off a bunch boxes to show you’re “well-rounded.” We don’t care if you’ve attended any school at all.
We look for people who have worked and succeeded in hard jobs, taken the initiative to pursue their interests outside of the classroom beyond just resume-padding internships. Praxis is for those who have pushed themselves to gain hard and soft skills in a way most young people do not.
The only way we know whether or not we can create value for you is by getting to know you, your goals, and who you are as it relates to the real world. What excites you? What do you want to learn? What are your strengths?
Our goal is to help you find and achieve the things that make you come alive. We only want to work with people we know we can create value for. Unlike colleges, Praxis won’t chase you to spend money on something you don’t find valuable.
In the words of our CEO Isaac Morehouse, “Tell me your story, not your status.”
Isaac writes,
“If I sent you a few bullets on schools attended or subjects studied, would they be as compelling an intro as something like, ‘She’s the girl who is obsessed with word-play and since childhood has been trying to be a well-known writer,’ or, ‘He’s the guy who left his desk job to climb mountains barefoot because he was so tired of all his health problems,’ or, ‘She’s the girl who’s trying to figure out how to use design to improve people’s moods’?
You are living a story. What is it? The sooner you stop defining yourself by your status, the sooner you can spot the beautiful narrative you’re creating and communicate it to others.”
College admissions teams want to know your status. At Praxis, we want to know your story.
Understanding your story requires you to reflect and think more critically about yourself and your goals. We often receive messages from both rejected and accepted applicants who tell us that the when applying to Praxis, they were asked them questions they had never been asked before and that they learned a lot about themselves in the process.
Whether or not Praxis is right for you, we want the application process to be a thought-provoking and self-educating experience.
When you apply to Praxis, we don’t see you as another number or statistic. We’re here to create real value for you.
Think you’re up for the challenge? Apply to Praxis today! We have new cohorts starting every month.
