Problem-solving=The elimination of what is NOT desired.
Creativity=The production of what IS desired.
Both are necessary, but the two are not the same.
Problems demand that we play the role of fire extinguishers. Creativity demands that we play the role of fire starters.
Sometimes we have to stop what we’re doing in order to put out destructive fires, but it’s also necessary to break free from our routines so we can ignite some constructive fires of our own.
It’s easy to get stuck in a reactionary pattern of coping with challenges and dealing with difficulties, but as the old saying goes, “Surviving ain’t the same as thriving.”
Problem-solving is mandatory: life will make you do it, whether you like it or not.
Creativity is optional: it must be chosen and consciously cultivated or else it dies.
If you’re not intentional about clarifying and creating your ideals, you allow circumstances and conditions to be the driving forces in your life.
Manage the unwanted, but don’t forget to manifest the unprecedented.
