I am an urban planner and recent college graduate. I enjoy city planning because it engages my passions for building communities, changing broken systems, and questioning the way things are. Through my work, though, I realized that I lacked an understanding of land development and finance that is important for city planners to have. At first, I began to look into graduate business and real estate programs to bridge this knowledge gap, but I was reluctant to take on even more debt. Then I discovered Praxis.
I chose Praxis because of the opportunity to work in a small business environment and because of the robust and well-rounded curriculum covering topics from philosophy to finance. I initially saw how I could apply this experience to a career in city planning, but then I saw how this could also reveal other paths that would engage my passions. Praxis will open doors for me and increase my options while I earn money and gain hands-on experience creating value for a small business. As a student in the first Praxis class, I am excited to broaden my learning and discern how I am meant to use my skills and passions to impact the places I will call home.
