One of the highlights of the Praxis experience is that it really is Praxis — it is theory meeting application. Winter 2015 Participant KJ Herr learned firsthand that what you learn with a real-world education can easily outdo what is instilled in a classroom.
KJ will be joining Goodybag in Austin, TX for our Winter 2015 class. Learn why he chose Praxis over business school.
A couple years ago I worked at a cigar shop and 2 storage facilities as a manager, and during that time I learned more about business than any college course I had taken. The courses I took taught me a lot about preparing me to get my MBA, but taught me nothing about the challenges of being an entrepreneur. I learned nothing about having to quickly adapt to new situations, about having to really think outside the box, and how to solve real problems. However, working with an entrepreneur did.
After losing my first company I decided to go back to school, and after two weeks of sitting in a classroom, I remembered why I didn’t stay the first time, or the second time, or the third. There’s something to being a well rounded individual, but I still don’t see the value of knowing every artist from Ancient Egypt to today while my classmates sit in dimly lit coffee shops laughing at someone reading Emily Dickinson because it’s too easy. In short, I was tired of doing nothing.
Beginning Praxis is an exciting opportunity for me because I’ll be working with top notch entrepreneurs who decided they didn’t like doing nothing either. They wanted to solve real world problems, and did. I can’t wait for what the next 10 months have in store for me.
