Praxis participants doing cool stuff 👊
Praxis participant Nicholas Merten has the #1 cryptocurrency channel on Youtube. Nicholas only started his YouTube channel 7 months ago and acquired over 10,000 subscribers in his first month. He now has over 276k subscribers and is considered the “undisputed Youtube Crypto king.” He cranks out videos 5 times a week and does a mix of information, data live streams, and interviews. Check out his channel here!
After already succeeding as a full-time entrepreneur and artist running her first company, HP Media, Praxis alumnus Hannah Phillips officially launched her second company, a digital media agency called Piper Creative.
Congrats on this huge next step, Hannah! We can’t wait to watch it grow!
“Piper Creative has officially launched and I couldn’t be more excited about building this company. CEO of Piper Creative and my co-founder, Aaron Watson, dropped a podcast covering everything you need to know about this business. We’re documenting every single aspect of our growth over on our Youtube channel. Watch the intro to Piper here.”
Nicholas Kleinhuizen wrote “5 Skills I Acquired Working at a Tech Startup” about what he’s learned during his Praxis apprenticeship as a Growth Associate at Lightning AI, where he manages sales and marketing and works hand in hand with account managers, data scientists, engineers, and marketing specialists.
Check out what Nicholas has learned, from productivity hacks to technical skills to healthy mindset changes for surviving and thriving in the business world.
“A couple of months ago, my life drastically changed. I went from being a college dropout who lived at home to working at a tech startup across the country. Over the past few months, here are 5 lessons I’ve learned:
1. The Art of GTD (Getting Things Done)
2. User Journey’s, Funnels, and Pixels
3. Google AdWords and SEO
4. Qualifying, Disqualifying, and CRM Software
5. Think critically and stay hungry”
Current participant Kaiden Foster is wrapping up his Praxis bootcamp experience and this month he is moving to Atlanta and joining Telo as part of their Sales and Support team where he will be learning sales, developing internal training materials, and handling support inquiries. He recently wrote an awesome blog post about his excitement to get started!
“Praxis came along and changed my mind about continuing education in the traditional way. Long story short, the night before the UAA orientation, I decided that my absence would not be noticed so long as I didn’t show up for class the next week either.
Fast forward to the present day, after five months of online work and another month of interviewing at positions all over the country, I want to say hello to Telo.
Telo builds and supports developer-friendly data API’s. Say what? Yeah, my thoughts too. Unless you’re savvy on the coding and techier side of computers you are probably just as confused as I was. Basically, they design systems that allow phone companies to provide caller ID.
I was hired for a sales and support role. There will be a pretty steep learning curve since I wasn’t born a programming prodigy like Mark Zuckerberg, but I’m willing to learn!”
This week in the Praxis community 😎
On Friday, a few Bay Area-based Praxis participants and alumni got together for a happy hour in San Francisco’s financial district. These guys and gals work at Silicon Valley startups like PandaDoc, MetaData, and ClickUp. Praxis meetups never cease to be fun and inspiring!
This month we had 12 new participants start the program for our March cohort! Last week the new class got together for their online opening seminar to prepare for module 1 of the 6-month Praxis bootcamp and beyond. We can’t wait to go through this transformational year-long journey with them!
Last week we also held a writing workshop for our weekly Praxis Wednesdays, group sessions for our participants that are designed to hone intellectual ability and communication and build practical skills they can take with them anywhere in the professional world. Many weeks we’re joined by guest speakers, and other weeks we engage in open dialogue and debate.
This time we welcomed Craig Biddle, editor of The Objective Standard, to lead a workshop on writing called “Writing as a Tool for Learning and Professional Branding.”
Praxis in the media 📰
“I’ve got a four-year head start.
I have that much more experience in the workplace, and I’ve learned how to communicate my value much better and sooner than they will.
I’ve learned many tough lessons in these first six months at my (Praxis) business partner, and that’s made me smarter and tougher. I’ve also developed real, tangible skills here. All of it is based in experience.”
I can take these skills sets and sell myself to any company want. I don’t need some third party to vouch for me because I know how to demonstrate my value.”
Director of Marketing at Praxis, Derek Magill, was interviewed on the School Sucks Podcast to talk about Dropping Out of College, Why and How.
Derek talked about his personal decision to drop out of the University of Michigan when he realized he wasn’t finding the experience valuable towards his intellectual and professional goals.
“Over the last four years or so, my decision to leave has been vindicated. I’ve got a wonderful life, a great career, and I’ve gotten to spend 3-4 extra years pursuing my values on my own terms.”
Listen to the full podcast episode to hear Derek’s advice for young people who are struggling with the decision to drop out of college, including tips on talking to parents, mindset, and the importance of proving yourself to yourself first.
