Every month, Praxis participants interview with several different startups during their apprenticeship placement process. Our Placement Specialist meets with every participant 1 on 1 during the program to get a sense of their interests and experience and make sure we’re finding the best possible apprenticeship.
Praxis has a highly customizable curriculum and a highly engaging community. Throughout the placement process, participants utilize the curriculum and community for things like interview practice and portfolio building. They then get the opportunity to put their best foot forward and actually sell themselves to multiple business owners.
January was a busy month for placements at Praxis. I asked a few of our participants to speak about their apprenticeship placement process. This is what they had to say:
Participant: Jake Regner
Business Partner: PandaDoc (San Francisco, CA)
Role: Sales Development
“My name is Jake Regner and I joined Praxis shortly after dropping out of UW-Madison. I chose Praxis because I wanted the opportunity to expand my real world skills and network with people that would help me start my own company someday.
I recently accepted a job offer from Pandadoc, where I’ll be working at their global headquarters in San Francisco! I’ll be working with their Sales team and will be helping Pandadoc generate leads and potential contacts. I’m using this opportunity to become more experienced in the art of sales, a skill that will prove valuable for starting my own company in the future.”
Participant: David Chwala
Business Partner: ProMaster (Cincinnati, OH)
Role: Business Development
“I found Praxis after getting fed up with a college degree that cost me thousands and got me nowhere. The program enabled me to build an attractive and personal brand that showcases my skills to a business partner who will value and help develop them.
I will be joining ProMaster’s Business Development team, acquiring leads, leveraging social media, managing web and media campaigns, and generating market content. The company is located in Cincinnati, OH and I am excited to become an asset to a growing company.”
Participant: Hunter Kirkland
Business Partner: Vital Interaction (Austin, TX)
Role: Software Engineer
“I was on my gap year when I realized what an opportunity Praxis might be. I was wary of college, since I wanted to get ahead as a programmer.
Praxis provided me the training to interact with the professional world, since I already had the skills. Now I’m looking forward to enhancing my capabilities with my business partner in the real world!”
