How’d you discover Praxis?
After having been thrust into the 9-5 cubicle lifestyle immediately after high school and 3 semesters of community college, the “real college experience” FOMO had built up and I was excited to move onto the next stage. I had considered studying abroad in Barcelona, but the program was canceled last minute. I ended up transferring to the University of Hawaii at Manoa. In the beginning, it was tough to find a balance for work and play. I couldn’t resist the glassy blue waters, lush green mountains, and tropical sunsets. I was having the time of my life galavanting around the islands and only had a couple semesters left to complete my business degree when it all changed. I seriously injured myself doing CrossFit and ended up taking a leave of absence to heal up.
During this time, I read a lot and exposed myself to the idea of alternative education. Up until then, I had never questioned the traditional path of going to college. I didn’t hate college. I actually really enjoyed it, but there were definitely times where I felt was just going through the motions and not learning anything of real value.
I began to rethink my career choices. Where do I go from here? I considered UnCollege, Enstitute, trade school, and even volunteering on an organic coffee farm in the central highlands of Costa Rica. I stumbled across Isaac Morehouse’s short ebook, The Future of School, and discovered Praxis. It rose to the top of my shortlist, as I completely resonated with his views on college, higher education, and learning. Praxis provides the platform for me to develop the essential skills needed to thrive in today’s work environment. I’m excited to move to a new city, work with an awesome company, and challenge myself to take control of my future.
