We asked Mitchell about his decision to apply to Praxis and this is what he said:
Why did you choose Praxis?
This past summer, I worked for the Foundation for Economic Education. In one way or another, I spent the summer listening to brilliant intellectuals, student leaders, co-workers, and friends discuss their answer to this question: “How do we achieve a more free society?” I had trouble answering this question for myself, because I lacked a clear vision of how to do it.
At the end of summer, I was going to begin law school. I felt it was the surest, safest way for me to work toward this idea of a freer society, yet I had no idea how it would help me. I was only convinced it couldn’t hurt.
With six weeks until school began, I heard about Praxis, and immediately, I knew I had found my answer to that question. It’s a business model I believed in the moment it was explained to me, and I am convinced it is the future of education. The charisma, definite optimism and freedom mentality that both the Praxis staff and participants whom I’ve met maintain is nothing short of inspiring. I wanted that. I had to have it.
Why are you most looking forward to about your Praxis experience?
I’ve always known I would never be happy “unless I was going Mach 2 with my hair on fire.” In looking for a career, I have always desired something that would stretch me to my limits, and force to me overcome what I lacked in talent or knowledge through a relentless work ethic and desire to achieve. I operate best when I’m under immense pressure, and the game is on the line.
Being paired with SAM-Labs, I’m going to be forced to do just that. I’m going to have to learn and adapt to new challenges and industries quickly and proficiently. There’s nothing more thrilling to me than having the gauntlet thrown down and seeing if I’m up to the challenge.
I truly feel this program can help empower me to be a better employee for Quicken, prepare me to be a great entrepreneur when I head out on my own, and help me learn new innovative ways to conquer the challenge of financial illiteracy this country faces. There is no better team, no better group of individuals, a no better program I rather have by my side in helping me achieve my dreams than Praxis. I revel at the opportunity to work with professionals who do the same each and every day. I guess you could say that in Praxis, I’ve found my tribe.
